What is Embedded Workplace Support?

Embedded Workplace Support is proactive and dedicated partnership focusing on prevention, early intervention and accessible mental health and leadership support. The support is integrated within your organisation and delivered by experienced clinicians matched to fit your organisation and your unique culture.

This is a highly tailored and flexible service, considering the unique needs of your people and organisation. In-house support can vary in frequency and intensity (from one day a month to full-time). Your clinician’s time may be spent providing a diverse range of support, consultation and advisory services depending on your requirements.

Examples of services include:

Successfully supporting oncology nurses directly on the ward reduces burnout and builds familiarity, rapport and trust in EAP program

The Challenge

An oncology ward of a major hospital needed to put into place proactive and attentive mental health support for their nurses, who were frequently exposed to a complex and challenging work environment, including grief, trauma and death. Over time, the ward staff presented increasingly with issues such as burnout, vicarious trauma, and difficulties maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

The Solution

Together with the customer, we customised an ongoing, embedded workplace support program that addresses the needs and challenges of the oncology ward staff directly at their workplace. The program includes many initiatives, such as initial check-ins with new starters, face-to-face consultations, psychoeducation programs, and helping identify support buffers that protect against vicarious trauma and burnout.

The Outcome

Support has been very well received, with high engagement across the ward. The consistent and visible presence of a Benestar clinician over the past three years has established familiarity, rapport and trust with the nursing team. In addition, the onsite support delivered at the oncology ward has become a conduit to promote and help drive the utilisation of Benestar's EAP services across the hospital.

As a testament to the value of this service.  the embedded workplace support program has now been in place at the oncology ward for over three years.
